HHV has co-sponsored the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) annual National Veterans TEE (Training, Exposure, Experience) Golf Tournament. The idea for an annual tournament began during one of VA’s Special Events – the 1993 National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic when two visually-impaired veterans, with the help of Iowa City VA Medical Center staff, came up with the concept of combining avid veteran golfers with those who have no golf experience whatsoever, to come together to learn, share experiences, and finally – to compete!
Since its first event held in Nauvoo, Illinois at the Great River Bend Golf Course in 1994, the TEE Tournament has grown from 36 visually impaired veterans to 117 participants in 2008, and has been expanded to include not only visually impaired veterans, but those with other disabilities as well.
The annual events continue to be held and hosted by staff and volunteers of the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa. HHV encourages the public to support this very worthwhile event and experience for America’s blinded and disabled veterans. Fulfillment of products and services for America’s veterans receiving care at VA medical centers has been and continues to be the goals of HHV, and this program offers and successfully delivers those services.
